Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Ccson! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 2 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 146 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

  1. Marsha Cheeks - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL
  2. Harry E. Johnson - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Hello, a few months ago I started to edit on Wikipedia. When I saw the sorry state of the notable member list of my fraternity, Phi Kappa Psi, I was sucked in by the desire to elevate it to something better. The List of Alpha Phi Alpha brothers provided inspiration and guidance. List of Phi Kappa Psi brothers was promoted to featured list status yesterday. If you look closely, you'll recognize that part of how this list is organized borrows from the excellent work done on the Alpha Phi Alpha list. Thanks for the hard work that you've done. You led the way, and today another fraternity list joins the Alpha Phi Alpha list, as well as the Alpha Kappa Alpha list, in Wikipedia's small class of excellence. Thank you for your kind words. I really like that you added the green color to the section headings. Congratulations!!!--Ccson (talk) 14:33, 10 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are now a Reviewer

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Karanacs (talk) 17:01, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Duplicated extra description of Alpha Phi Alpha.

[edit]

There a number of articles (more than 150) on Wikipedia with an almost identical phrase that I'm uncomfortable with and I think you may have written most of them. They are either "... is/was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha, the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African Americans" or the same with "organization" instead of "fraternity". For most, if not all of them, while the fact that they belonged to Alpha Phi Alpha belongs in the article, the additional description does not. IMO, most of them should be altered to "... is/was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity". I thought that I would drop you a line before going any farther.Naraht (talk) 03:03, 20 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Alpha Phi Alpha Conventions.

[edit]

Could you look at User:Naraht/apac and let me know of any ideas you have? I was given the list from the back of the history book by an Alpha Phi Alpha brother that I know well. Most of the other Noble 9 have a page for their conventions at this time, I started with the structure for the Sigmas, but added the anniversary since conventions are described by both number and anniversary.Naraht (talk) 03:50, 20 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dr. William P. Foster

[edit]

Although I am sure you if you researched the matter, I'm sure you are able to find substantial resources that would support many of these brothers being members of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity; however, here's a fraternity memo (that you can find on the internet) that was sent out by the national president of Alpha Phi Alpha, Herman "Skip" Mason, regarding the passing of Dr. William P. Foster: http://forum.the5thquarter.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=10004

Just the same, you can go on youtube and watch a video of The Lords of the Underground and see for yourself the brother wearing his fraternity letters, as well as rapping a verse about his membership in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.92.10.208 (talk) 22:46, 14 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dr. William P. Foster

[edit]

I am so proud of how maintain the page regarding Alpha Phi Alpha and legitimize all the information, however, regarding some of the notable brothers whom you have not seen or been shown reliable resource to justify some of the names making the list; but I would think that you could easily research the information on line yourself and either find some credible source to substantiate some of these listed names. For example, I know for a fact that Dr. William P. Foster is a brother of Alpha. I researched Dr. William P. Foster and came across a Kenneth Spencer Research Library website at the University of Kansas that has research documents listed on Dr. William P. Foster; and it is noted that he is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. The website is as follows: http://etext.ku.edu/view?docId=ksrlead/ksrl.kc.fosterwilliam.xml;route=ksrlead;brand=ksrlead;query= 24.92.10.208 (talk) 05:00, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Sigma Iota Alpha, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which articles can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may be soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:

  • It seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. (See section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.
  • It appears to be a clear copyright infringement. (See section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. However, even if you use one of these processes to release copyrighted material to Wikipedia, it still needs to comply with the other policies and guidelines to be eligible for inclusion. If you would like any assistance with this, you can ask a question at the help desk.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hoi, This is a list of the number of articles in every Wikipedia that has an article about an Alpha Phi Alpha member. I had a look at the en.wp list and found that for some "blue links" there are no articles and for some black links there are.. Thanks, GerardM (talk) 11:56, 16 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Just for the fun of it, here is a Listeria list of members as well. Thanks, GerardM (talk) 12:07, 16 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Invite to Join WikiProject for Spoken Wikipedia

[edit]
Hi Ccson! I am Galendalia (talk · contribs) and I am reviving the WikiProject for Spoken Wikipedia. I noticed that you signed up at some point to be a participant and as I am reviving this project, one of my tasks is to get the participant list in order. Would you please go to the Participants List and add your name and language(s) you speak? If you are already there and do not want to be, please remove yourself. If you want to remain, please put remain next to your name. If I do not see anything, I will move you to the inactive participant list. I am putting a timeline of 7 days on this action to help keep things moving along. It would also be great if you would be willing to join the task force for Pronunciation that would be awesome, as there are troublesome words we run into.

Thank you for considering joining us. If you decide to leave, I will be sad to see you leave as so many people have done a great job on the recordings and any work you have done makes a significant difference.
